Vanguard supports the Albany Symphony’s musicians in meaningful, hands-on ways:
Musician Scholarships – At season’s end, Vanguard awards scholarships—funded by member donations—to ASO musicians for advanced summer study.
Host a Musician – Offer a place to stay for out-of-town players during busy concert weeks. These musicians appreciate the warm hospitality—and the breakfast conversations are a bonus!
Backstage Snacks – Prepare light food for musicians, the conductor, and soloists at concerts and Tiny Tots performances.
Transportation & Welcome – Drive guest soloists and composers to and from the airport, hotel, and rehearsal hall. We also create welcome baskets to greet them.
Concert Ushers – Help hand out programs, answer questions, and assist with seating alongside Palace Theatre staff.
Concert Prevue – Host a pre-concert talk at the Albany Public Library. Meet the conductor and guest artists, hear musical insights, and enjoy refreshments.
